The Gay-Lussac scale glass alcoholmeter is a measuring instrument designed to quickly and accurately determine the concentration of alcohol by volume in hydroalcoholic liquids.

Its operation is based on the principle of flotation: the instrument is introduced into the sample, and depending on the density of the liquid, it sinks to a greater or lesser extent. The reading is taken directly on the graduated scale, coinciding with the meniscus level.

The device incorporates a Gay-Lussac scale, which allows direct reading of the ethanol percentage (% vol) without the need for additional calculations.

The instrument is calibrated at a reference temperature of 20 °C, a condition in which maximum measurement precision is guaranteed. If working at different temperatures, it is necessary to apply corrections using standard tables.

Its balanced design ensures completely vertical flotation, avoiding inclinations that could affect the reading.

Conditions of Use

To obtain reliable results, it is recommended:

  • Use clean samples without bubbles

  • Perform the measurement at rest

  • Use an adequate container that allows complete immersion

A glass cylinder (graduated cylinder) with dimensions compatible with the instrument is usually used. Our catalog includes a recommended 300 ml cylinder, designed to facilitate a comfortable and precise reading.

Applications

This instrument is suitable for:

  • Enology and wine control

  • Distillation processes

  • Production of alcoholic beverages

  • Quality control in the food industry

  • Educational and laboratory use
