Made of high-quality glass, they offer excellent chemical resistance and allow direct visualization of the filtration process, which facilitates control and reproducibility of results.
They incorporate a sintered filter plate that eliminates the need for additional support in certain applications, providing uniform particle retention according to the selected porosity grade. They are available in porosities ranging from grade 0 to grade 4, which allows the system to be adapted to different particle sizes and analytical requirements:
- Grade 0: 160–250 µm
- Grade 1: 100–160 µm
- Grade 2: 40–100 µm
- Grade 3: 16–40 µm
- Grade 4: 10–16 µm
Their use in combination with a Kitasato flask and a vacuum source—such as a pump or water aspirator—allows the filtration process to be significantly accelerated compared to gravity methods, improving operational efficiency.
The procedure consists of coupling the funnel to the flask using a rubber adapter to ensure airtightness, applying a vacuum, and performing the separation, retaining the solid on the filter plate or on the filter paper when used.
