Automatic apparatus for melting point determination

The 440 automatic melting point apparatus is designed for the accurate and reproducible measurement of the melting point of solid substances using automatic photoelectric detection. It can analyse up to three samples simultaneously using three capillary tubes and automatically record the initial and final temperatures of the melting process.

The instrument uses melting point capillary tubes measuring 90 mm in length, with an outside diameter of 1.4 mm and an inside diameter of 1.0 mm, and a sample filling height of 3 mm. It is supplied with a pack of 500 capillary tubes.

We also supply melting point capillary tubes with one end closed, in boxes of 100 units, for compatible instruments. Please check the appropriate reference and dimensions for each instrument.

During the test, the instrument graphically displays the melting curve on its 6.9” colour LCD touchscreen, making it easy to monitor the process and view the results directly. The system detects the change in light transmission that occurs as the sample changes from the solid to the liquid state.

Temperature control and measurement method programming

Temperature control using a PT100 platinum resistance sensor, together with digital PID control, provides stable temperature regulation during measurement. The instrument operates from ambient temperature up to 360 °C and allows a linear heating rate to be selected between 0.1 and 20 °C/min, enabling the test conditions to be adapted to the characteristics of each sample.

It provides 8 programmable measurement methods, allowing the preset temperature and heating rate to be stored for convenient repetition of routine procedures. It also incorporates a temperature calibration function using reference materials.

Recording, printing and transfer of results

The instrument can store up to 1,000 measurement records, including data such as date, time, heating parameters and the initial and final melting point temperatures. Results and melting curves can be printed directly using the thermal printer supplied with the instrument.

USB and RS232 interfaces allow the instrument to be connected to a computer for use with the corresponding software and management of measurement data.
